We recently provided a comprehensive migration training solution to a large public sector transport authority.

The organisation was undertaking an upgrade to Microsoft Office 2010 at the same time as moving from Novell GroupWise to Outlook 2010.  It was imperative that the transition was as seamless as possible and the amount of downtown reduced to a minimum with any drop in productivity lessoned as much possible.

The primary objective was to ensure users could continue to perform their day-to-day duties utilising the new version of MS Office with as little disruption as possible. The introduction of the new version also stimulated the need to make improvements to ways of working and reinforce best-practice across the organisation, in particular with regards to the use of email and calendars, corporate templates and formatting.

SmartStyle recently developed an IT competency framework, for a regional housing association which had just upgraded its systems to Microsoft Office 2007. Users were assessed against the framework using Fiz-assist, our online skills gap analysis tool, and targeted workshops were developed and delivered to fill gaps identified by the analysis.

The organisation employs approximately 120 PC users who, as a group, had received very little formal training to develop IT skills. 

The aim was to improve overall IT capabilities, maximise on the investment the business had made in the new technology, at the same time as providing support and development opportunities to its people. The organisation needed to maximise the training budget and ensure training was relevant for each individual and that people were only trained on the functionality within the applications used for their job.  Training needed to be targeted at an individual level.

We are experts in developing and delivering programmes which are designed to give users key 'benchmarking' skills in all Microsoft Office applications.

SmartStyle worked with a large legal organisation in the development and delivery of such a programme. Working in partnership with our client, we agreed a set of minimum IT competencies for two distinct groups of employees; managers and administrators. The content of each benchmarking course was then developed to map to the competencies required by that particular group.

Course material and certificates of training were co-branded, and the programme was delivered to both existing employees and new starters over a period of 2 years.

We have developed and regularly deliver bespoke basic IT skills courses for a number of clients, which include various elements of PC ‘housekeeping’, business processes and best practice.

We recently worked in partnership with a large local government organisation on the launch of an initiative to provide free WIFI internet access and a computer to every child care provider within its metropolitan district.

There were approximately 900 providers based across 700 venues across the district, many of them in very rural settings. The skills, experience and confidence of users was diverse with some having no experience at all.
